When I looked up the definition of "style" I liked this version: impressive flair in the way something is done, especially a quality that suggests a self-confident willingness to exhibit skill or good taste.
As a student, when I analyze my learning styles, I see a complete wardrobe that I can change, and mix-n-match to suit my preference. Fashions change, seasons change, bodies change, looks change, and styles change.
Being a bit fashionable, in my learning wardrobe, I want to make sure I have a tyle for all ocassions. If I can learn music better by hearing it, I go to my wardrobe and choose my "Gucci" auditory hearing aide! If I can learn how to bake cookies by reading a recipe, I go to my wardrobe and choose my "Ralph Lauren" visual sunglasses! And, if I can think better by walking, I go to my wardrobe and choose my "Nike" kinesthetic tennis shoes! I believe several styles can address my needs, so I try each one on till I find the right fit!
Variety is the spice of life, I tell ya! So, I am going to spice up my learning techniques wardrobe, and strut my learning styles all over the knowledge runway! Thanks for the tip Deb ;)
I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and may you all have a Blessed and Happy New Year!!!

Instructions, How Do I.......
How can I learn this, let me count the ways! I know I use a lot of sayings, but when I try to complete my assignments, those sayings just pop into my head. I have so musch to say about instructions, my soapbox is going into bubble overload. For the learners already familiar with the techniques, especially technical, the instructions given may seem like enough. But for a "baby boomer" that finished an associates degree in 98', and did not go back to school until now----it just ain't so! Sure, there's enough information to get you to the starting gate, but what about when you hit the track with all the other runners, at a lost for directions?
I think some assignments require step by step demonstration, for those learners behind the time, but want so desperately to get on the "I know how" wagon. I think educators should make sure students have some demonstration in all phases of some assignments. How to get started, how to manuever and implement. This gives learner a practice field and a good headstart!

Variety is the spice of life, as diversity is the seasoning of learning!
A diverse system of instructors, are needed to guide an ever growing diverse student body, and in turn, meeds diversity in teaching styles and techniques. We have variety in practically every aspect of living. We vary in how we live, how we dress, how we talk, act, and think. There is variety in our preferences of colors, cars we drive, careers we choose, and friendships we develop. It's all about choice! And of course, our choices are going to be geared towards what we love, desire, and enjoy... our preferences. As humans, we tend to seek and hold onto what we consider to be good and beneficial to us. We give it our undivided attention and time...likewise in learning!
I think educators should create assignments for every learning style, so that students have the best environment to learn in. We as students and educators, differ in how we teach, take in, and interpret information. The differences are vital in determining how we approach learning, and those differences deserve recognition.
After researching and studying various learning style theories, I believe it is urgent that educators and students know and understand their learning style preference. This knowledge can be utilized by educators, in developing teaching strategies to accomodate all student learning preferences. It also creates an opportunity to introduce the students to other learning styles as well. The student's knowledge of their learning style is an eye-opener! It explains how they prefer to learn and why, what techniques work best for them, and an idea of techniques might not.
Knowing why you prefer to learn a certain way, presents a road map for understanding and completing assignments, and developing good study habits. Knowing your learning style preference is a positive first step. I feel that a positive attitude towards learning, leads to positive educational experiences.
